CLEVELAND, OH — U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that on Monday, May 12 he will hold a “Careers in Manufacturing Summit” at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) in order to connect Northeast Ohio job seekers with local manufacturers looking for workers. Throughout the day, employers will have the opportunity to meet with prospective employees and learn about resources to help them hire and train workers.
“For many, manufacturing has been a ticket to the middle-class,” Brown said. “This summit will connect manufacturers hiring workers, with workers who are seeking manufacturing jobs or training. This would strengthen our economy by ensuring Northeast Ohioans have more job opportunities and that local manufacturers have the skilled workforce they need to compete.”
Brown will co-host his summit with Tri-C, the Manufacturing Advocacy and Growth Network (MAGNET), Ohio Means Jobs Cleveland-Cuyahoga, and the Cleveland Society for Human Resource Management.
Among the job openings that participating employers are looking to fill include: die makers, machinists, welders, CNC programmers, press operators, maintenance workers, machine operators, shipping clerks, steelworkers, ink technicians, general laborers, quality control operators, utility workers, CDL drivers, sanitation workers, production/packaging supervisors, warehouse manufacturers, IT programmers, graphic designers, customer service representatives, electricians, and engineers.
Interested Jobseekers can register for the summit by calling (216) 664-3928.
Interested Employers can register for the summit by calling (216) 987-4307.
Brown continues to fight for Northeast Ohio workers and its manufacturing industry. Described as “Congress’ leading proponent of American Manufacturing,” Brown is a member of the Senate Manufacturing Caucus, currently Vice-Chair of the Senate Auto Caucus, and was recently named incoming Chair of the Senate Steel Caucus. Earlier this month, bipartisan manufacturing jobs legislation introduced by Brown and U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO) moved one step closer to becoming law. Brown-Blunt would establish a National Network of Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI) and create thousands of high-paying, high-tech manufacturing jobs while enhancing the United States’ role as the world’s leader in advanced manufacturing.
Further, as leaders in the Senate continue critical negotiations to reauthorize the Workforce Investment Act, Brown continues to call for passage of his Strengthening Employment Clusters to Organize Regional Success (SECTORS) Act of 2013. Brown’s bipartisan bill would address the skilled labor shortage by helping unemployed local workers train for local jobs in high-growth industries.
