TIFFIN, OH – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) traveled to Tiffin University today to visit the construction site of a new recreation center and student housing facility. The projects are being built on the site of the former Rosenblatt scrapyard site on Miami Street.

“With the right leadership and federal support, brownfields like the Rosenblatt scrapyard can be transformed from neighborhood eyesores into sources of economic development and growth,” Brown said. “With federal assistance and help from Governor Strickland, Tiffin University was able to turn a scrapyard into new student facilities that will attract hundreds more students, create jobs, and bring new economic development to the area.”

With Brown’s assistance, Tiffin University, partnering with the Seneca Industrial and Economic Development Corporation (SIEDC), is receiving $1 million from the Brownfield Revolving Loan Fund through the Ohio Department of Development (ODOD). ODOD receives the funding for the program from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). According to Tiffin University, the new projects will attract an additional estimated 400 students and will create new, permanent jobs for the community.
