WASHINGTON, DC- U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) issued the following statement after meeting with President Obama's nominee to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court, Solicitor General Elana Kagan::
"Solicitor General Kagan's diverse background has given her a unique understanding of how the law affects every-day Americans. I look forward to a thorough confirmation process that will allow us to learn more about Solicitor General Kagan's perspective and record.
"She will have the opportunity to consider a number of issues in the coming years. I hope she will rectify the recent judicial activism which produced the Citizens United decision, overturning a century of jurisprudence to give large corporations too big a voice in our elections. We need Supreme Court justices who will interpret the law and our Constitution with the interests of the American people in mind rather than the special interests of a privileged few."
