WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sens. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and Rob Portman (R-OH) today announced that the Senate passed a resolution they introduced honoring George Voinovich’s life of service to Ohio and the United States. Voinovich passed away on June 12, 2016.

“Connie and I send our deepest condolences to Janet, their children, the people of Cleveland and everyone touched by George Voinovich’s life of service,” Brown said. “George was a man of strong conviction, yet he was always willing to listen to the other side of an argument and put what he believed was best for our state and country ahead of partisan politics. George was a true public servant who loved the city of Cleveland and the people of Ohio, and his legacy will live on in the lasting contributions he made to our city and our state.”

“George Voinovich represented the best of public service, dedicating his life to helping others and standing up for the people of Ohio,” said Portman. “George woke up every day wondering how he could make life better for Ohioans. He was a man of integrity who was effective at bringing people together to achieve meaningful results. He loved his hometown of Cleveland and was a proud son of Ohio. I will always be grateful for his friendship, and I look forward to the Senate passing this bipartisan resolution.”
