Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today released the following statement in response to the communiqué issued at the G-20 meeting of global leaders:

“I applaud the efforts of G-20 leaders to address a global economic crisis. It is imperative that nations work together to stabilize financial and economic markets around the word. The United States is suffering from the worst recession since the Great Depression, caused, in large part by wrong-headed economic policies including unregulated free trade agreements. While it may serve as a common denominator for G-20 leaders, protectionism is in the eye of the beholder. Fighting to ensure our nation’s product and safety standards, and working to promote domestic production and defend against subsidized imports is not protectionism, it is smart economic policy.”
