WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH)
announced that the United States Economic Development Administration (EDA) has
awarded a $2,155,616 grant to The Wilds, in Cumberland, Ohio, to
build a 60-acre recreational vehicle campground at the wildlife conservation
center. This award is part of EDA’s
Travel,
Tourism and Outdoor Recreation Program to help the region recover from the
COVID-19 pandemic and drive economic activity through tourism. This grant is
funded by the
American Rescue
Plan, which Brown helped write and pass.
“Ohioans
depend on access to parks for outdoor recreation, community events, and local
jobs,” said
Brown. “This funding from the American Rescue Plan will support the local
economy, create jobs, and promote local tourism.”
The EDA is the only federal government agency focused exclusively
on economic development. The program is designed to provide financial assistance
to communities, and promote economic development.
EDA grants are awarded through a competitive process based upon
the application’s merit, the applicant’s eligibility, and the availability of
funds. More information on EDA’s grant process and investment process can be
found at
www.eda.gov.
