WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Chair of
the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, issued the
following statement regarding the confirmation of votes of Governor Lael
Brainard to be Vice Chair of the Federal Reserve Board, and the cloture vote of
Dr. Lisa Cook, nominee to be a Member of the Board of Governors of the Federal
Reserve System.
“I
congratulate Governor Lael Brainard on her confirmation to be Vice Chair of the
Federal Reserve Board. I look forward to working with her and the entire board
to continue our economic recovery,” said Brown. “We’ve made
tremendous economic progress over the last year, but Republicans continue to
put that progress and our efforts to fight inflation at risk by blocking key
economic policy nominees like Dr. Lisa Cook. It is disappointing that Senate
Republicans are exploiting the absences of our colleagues to stop a qualified
Black woman – the first African American woman ever nominated to serve on the
Federal Reserve Board. Once again, they’ve decided that scoring political
points is more important than serving the public and bringing down prices for
American families. The Senate will reconsider Dr. Cook’s nomination
expeditiously, and I look forward to the Senate confirming this exceptionally
talented and qualified nominee to the Board of Governors.”
