TOLEDO, OH – Today, U.S.
Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) joined city leaders, Teamsters Local 20 and AFSCME
Local 2058 members at the City of Toledo Bay View Water Reclamation Facility to
discuss investments the bipartisan infrastructure law will make in local water
systems.
“This law will finally
allow Ohio communities to replace their lead pipes. It’s going to mean safer
drinking water, and it’s going to reduce pollution in lakes and rivers like the
Maumee and Lake Erie,” said Brown. “Replacing these pipes
will also create good jobs for pipefitters and Ohio tradespeople – jobs that
can’t be shipped overseas. That’s because every project will be done with
American materials made by American workers because of Buy America protections
we were able to secure in the infrastructure law.”
Brown toured the facility
and was joined at the event by City of Toledo Bay View Water Reclamation
Facility leadership, union leadership and union employees to discuss bipartisan
infrastructure plan investments.
"This bipartisan
infrastructure bill signals substantial progress toward the
restoration and protection of Lake Erie. Investing in our natural resources is
not only critical to public health, it is a crucial pathway to economic
growth," said Toledo Mayor
Wade Kapszukiewicz, who was not in attendance but was represented at the
event. "This bill delivers meaningful results for working families here
in Toledo. Not long ago, Toledo residents woke up to a water crisis that
shook our city. It was a crisis that none of us want to live through again. This
bill puts important investments in place to upgrade our water
infrastructure and ?ensure clean drinking water for all our residents.”
Last year, the Senate
passed bipartisan legislation to strengthen drinking water and wastewater
infrastructure and replace lead pipes as a part of the infrastructure law. The
bipartisan infrastructure law contained key wins for Ohio’s water
infrastructure.
