WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last night the U.S. Senate passed a resolution by unanimous consent that was introduced by U.S. Senators George V. Voinovich (R-OH) and Sherrod Brown (D-OH) to honor Miami University in Ohio for its 200 years of commitment to public higher education. Miami University, which was chartered on February 17, 1809, is the United States’ tenth oldest public institution of higher education.
“Miami University has had a tremendous impact on the lives of its graduates, the community of Oxford, the state of Ohio and the nation,” said Voinovich. “It has a history of educating our nation’s leaders, including a president, congressmen, business leaders, teachers, journalists and Pulitzer Prize winners. I am honored to have the opportunity to recognize such a wonderful Ohio university for its remarkable history and I wish Miami University and its students continued success in all their endeavors.”

“This resolution recognizes the many accomplishments of Miami University over the past 200 years,” said Brown. “As the nation’s tenth oldest public university, Miami University has a distinguished list of graduates and a strong legacy of achievement. It is my honor to recognize this special anniversary with a resolution passed by the U.S. Senate.”
